Blue 'moss' in San Francisco Conservatory of Flowers

    This moss was a remarkably distinct blue. Unfortunately, no photo of underside.

    It looks like Selaginella. I see two called "peacock fern" (though it's not a fern):
    • Selaginella uncinata - peacock moss, peacock spikemoss, blue spikemoss (from Wikipedia)
    • Selaginella wildenowii
    I don't know how one would distinguish those.

    Thank you again, Wendy. It was in a humid tropical conservatory, so I suspect it might be willdenovii. However, the SFBG plant list doesn't have it, though it does list uncinata (outdoors).


    Looking up this stuff, I just ran across this site: www.centrallakesclinic.biz/garden-ferns/shorter-notes-rsh.html - very informative.
