I'm trying to identify an ornamental plant which had blue to violet, legume-like flowers on a spike, was about 2 feet tall, growing in a bushy clump. Sounds a lot like lupines, but the leaves were much more like clover or meliot than like lupines. The flowers are finished already, and the seed pods are short and very fat. Any ideas?

Look up baptisia australis AKA Blue False Indigo, see if that's it.
