My daughter brought the original start of this plant home from her school's "Girls in Science" day when she was 13. I inherited all the plants she collected when she left home. This is the first time this plant has bloomed in the 16 years we've had it. I have no idea what it is, nor how frequently it should bloom. I have no idea what I did differently (if anything) which caused it to bloom. I would appreciate anyone's help in identifying it.

Please note that the stems are very bulbous at the base. That's what my daughter brought home, just one of the stems with a couple of little roots sticking out of it.

Thank you every so much, Ron B. I've wondered for years but until it bloomed, was never concerned enough to really exert myself to find out.
