Bleeding Heart (dicentra) is difficult to grow from seeds, and they need stratification for six - eight weeks. Dividing the clump in early spring is an easier method of propagation. The old fashioned variety, D. spectabilis, can be started from cutting taken in early summer. Rooted cuttings taken after flowering can also be used. These should be three inches long or more. - Millet
