here is another thought on the copper solution if the areas are not too big, you can always make a solution in a small bucket and paint it on, we call this a slurry mix. As the tree is headed into dormancy you should not have a problem with further die-back with the copper application. dry day for at least 2 days use the sticker or oil as your spreading and sticking agent so the rains will not dilute and wash completely off the plant surface, also remember to spray the trunk and the area of the root zone, if other small shrubs are at it's base spray the copper under the pants not necessarily onto them some everygreen types do not appreciate copper spray solutions on them even this time of year as they may dis-colour the bracts/leaves; some juniper varieties are highly prone to this.

remember a calm dry day with as little drift as possible even when using a small mister hand held bottle. last application right before bud-swell in early spring.

And this was the situation in 1992/93, anybody guessing what the situation would be today, 20 years later?

always read and re-read the label from the manufacturer, there are different types of copper solutions.

if in the case of this lovely variant the advise is not working for you then would check into a possible professional tree service opinion but you must ask yourself how much is this Maple worth to you and your landscape. Again I point out the increase in effectiveness by adding a supreme / dormant oil to your copper as you want the best possible coverage.
