Hello, I came home from vacation a few days ago and discovered two plants in my yard had all the leaves on one stem/branch turn completely black. The rest of the plant appears to be fine at the moment. Sorry, I don't know the specific names of the plants. They're just the hedge and the bush to me. I've also noticed my mulberry tree has a few black leaves here and there, but a whole bunch of spotty ones that could possibly be turning. When I took a closer look yesterday I found several Stink Bugs on the Mulberry tree. I've never seen them on the tree before, but I've also never looked before either. As a side note, probably not relevant, but my lawn was destroyed by grubs last fall. We sprayed the lawn with nematodes in the spring. Can anybody explain what is going on and what I need to do to make sure this doesn't spread. I live in Toronto if that is relevant at all.
Could be two unrelated issues. Can you photograph healthy leaves of the first plant, the identity might be important. As for the mulberry, could very well be brown marmorated stink bug damage: Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) It looks quite a bit like the damage caused by a BMSB here: http://www.stopbmsb.org/stopBMSB/assets/Image/bmsb-wild-mustard.jpg If a possibility, you should try to verify the identity of the critter, and then follow the guidelines at the bottom of the first link above:
Thanks for the reply. I've contacted Ontario Agriculture regarding the stink bugs. As for the other two, I've attached pics of the healthy leaves. Any info you might be able to provide would be greatly appreciated.
