bizarre looking plant to ID

    This plant is in a south facing part of the garden gets full sun virtually all day, dry , dusty soil. It is about 5ft tall now and the same wide.

    The buds have plumped up quickly over the past two weeks. Leaves are soft and fleshy, like a succulent.

    it didn't flower last year despite vigorous leaf growth (it was here when we bought the house and has taken over a previously overgrown area that we cleared). I'd love to know how to look after it and ensure it flowers.

    I'm stumped, help!

    It reminds me of the Matilija poppy.

    i agree, reminds me of a poppy, also. mxb, you'll have to post some pics once the buds open!!

    After looking up the Matilija Poppy I think we have a winner.

    I'll certainly post a photo if/when one of the flowers opens.
