I have another question. I purchased a pack of Bird of Paradise seeds, followed the directions and out of six seeds only 1 germinated. It took over 2 months. The plant is now 6 years old, has developed into 2 seperate plants. One plant has 9 leaves and the other 7. I just repoted them into a larger pot because the roots had filled the old pot and started over the top. Since repoting, about two months ago, it has had 3 new leaves. The plant is about 3' tall. I keep it in the house during the winter (Michigan) and outside in the summer. When the temp gets below 50 I bring it inside. When should I expect a bird from this plant?
    Thanks
    Ron

Have a look at this thread of mine.
This will give you an idea of how soon you can expect them. Take into account though, that I am in the subtropics...

    Ed,
Thank you for the pic and I see that my plant may need another year or two for growth.
