I live in the West Kootenay (Interior of BC) and would like to plant a birch tree. There has been many birch trees in our area that have hit with a disease of some time. The trees have died at the top. I would like to know if I plant a birch tree is it doomed to die? Also, what type of birch would be the best for my area and I am looking for a fast growning tree to replace my 40 year old Sunburst Locust which is dying.

Maybe Bronze Birch Borer. If so, look for kinds described as borer resistant.
