Can anyone suggest an appropriate program for a Acer macro. that is home to a eagle nest. The tree is showing signs of decline, the top branchs are dying slowly but the bottom two thirds of the tree are relatively healthy. It is located on public land and due to concerns from various agencies we are considering providing supplementary water to it base. My feeling is that due to its age(30+ years) we are prolonging its life somewhat. Will the tree die anyway as Big Leafs are prone to do and would it be prudent to let nature run its course and forget about a watering system.

If not a hazard tree leave situation alone.

Bigleaf maples can live alot longer than 30 years.
