It's a very handsome tree. I wonder if this is something that will be adapted to our climate in 2050. Thanks for responding! Karin
We have several at the Botanical Garden in the area known as the Pacific Slope. They seem very happy there under the Douglas firs. Our plants are still small (< 3m), but many have spectacular emergent growth.
Presumably, that's the one Gerald Straley (Trees of Vancouver, UBC Press, 1992) described as "a small, sparse tree on the SE corner of the Pitch & Putt Golf Course in Stanley Park"? That was 26 years ago. I see that I've photographed that tree; I'm amazed that I would have recognized it from that description, or maybe I didn't find the description, since it's listed under its former name Lithocarpus densiflorus. I guess I looked it up on the internet to find out what I was looking for to confirm it for the Vancouver Trees App | UBC Botanical Garden, then forgot everything about it. I was looking for a similar photo on Flickr to add to my New Leaves gallery, but there isn't anything as nice as that.
