Can anyone recommend a good soil mix for Dracaena marginata Tricolor? I recently bought one and I notice there are bark pieces in the soil. I need to replant it because the roots are coming out of the bottom of the pot.

Also, one of the stalks/trunks is broken (there are 2 other ones in the pot). Will that broken stalk/trunk grow back?

    Thanks!! Roanna

the soil that it's in sounds right - they don't like to have wet feet, so a well-draining soil is good for them. the broken piece should sprout new growth - it will probably be a while as it's now getting into the slow-growth period. if you still have the top part, you can plop that in the soil and it'll root and continue to grow.

Good advice joclyn.....furthermore if you repot the crown you may want to strip off the bottom 1/3 of leaves. It is not essential, it just makes the plant concentrate on new growth and not keeping the old leaves alive...

    Good Luck

very good point, ed!! stripping off some of the leaves will also make it easier to plant the crown.

I just use good reg houseplant soil with some perlite added for extra drainage.
