We live on acreage in Powell River and have some local nurseries but can't always get the kind of trees we would like. I would like to have some specimen trees - any ideas where the best selection of trees would be for us. Preferably lower mainland or Vancouver Island.

Fraser's Thimble Farm on Saltspring Island should be accessible for you, and they have an on line catalogue.

I don't know if Brentwood Bay nursery carries many trees, but if so they'd likely be good ones. Also an on line catalogue, I believe.

In the lower mainland there are too many good nurseries to list... why not call around to them and ask if they have the trees you're looking for? Or list them here, and if we see them somewhere we can give you a heads-up. For an on line listing, you could try Port Kells nursery. I've never been there, but based on the list, I will be!

Do you have a list of what you'd like? I may be able to help you.
    Cheers, LPN.

I would like a catalpa, sugar maple, cytisus battandieri (not sure of the spelling of that one, in the broom family, nice little tree with yellow flowers). I can probably get my oaks and hopefully gleditsia here in Powell River

I have seedlings (4" to 6") of Cytisus battandieri if you're interested. In the past
these have grown into large shrubs in 4 to 5 years.

    Cheers, LPN.

Lots of places also do mail order, such as Golden Bough in Ontario, Rhora's and Grimo's (both of which specialize in nut trees) and doubtless many more. Fraser's Thimble also does mail order.

you could contact the BCLNA and request their buyers guide, it lists species and sizes with the nurseries that are growing them
