Hello to all community members. I recently joined this forum and quick wanted to introduce myself. My name is Emma and I am from France. A nature lover an environmental buff, I love to learn about plants, flowers. For my studies I will be in Vancouver all this summer and I would like to know the best places in the region to admire flowers, the most beautifull gardens. Looking forward to being an active participant in this forum. Cheers
Hi Emma, welcome to the forums. These sites should help, many beautiful public gardens. www.nitobe.org/ , www.botanicalgarden.ubc.ca/ , http://vancouver.ca/parks/parks
Thanks for the sites, Chimera. Good for us out-of-towners who only get to make lightning visits to Vancouver.
Here are some links to other locations in the region worth a visit if you have transportation to get around: www.mintergardens.com www.welcometobc.ca/bcgardens www.vancouverislandgardentrail.com
And don't forget VanDusen Botanical Gardens http://vancouver.ca/PARKS/parks/vandusen/website/ and if you venture across the bridges Darts Hill Garden in Surrey http://www.dartshill.ca/
If you happen to be down near Darts Hill Garden and are interested in trees check out Redwood Park it's about ten minutes away on 20th Ave between 176th. and 184th st. http://www.greatervancouverparks.com/RedwoodPark.html
Welcome to beautiful BC!!!! A trip to Butchart Gardens on Vancouver Island will be well worth the effort. 50 acres of gorgeous colour and the sunken garden, built in an old quarry over a hundred years ago, is spectacular. There is also a Japanese Garden, and various other theme plantings.Easy day trip on the ferry from Tsawwassen or Horseshoe Bay.
Thank you for all the suggestions. I have been to Butchart Gdns, spectacular, and Van Dusen, again, wonderful, usually in fall, winter and spring. I must try to get down during the summer. The other ones sound very intriguing too. So much to see, so little time. Am keeping a list.
