Hi: This plant is a volunteer in my front courtyard in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Since we don't have much water to spare around here, I don't want to keep it unless it's good for something! Can anyone identify it? Is it safe for children and pets? Is the berry edible? Thanks, Katy Hammel

A species of Solanum, perhaps Solanum americanum. Some Solanum species have edible berries, others are slightly to moderately poisonous; S. americanum is edible when fully ripe but not while the berries are unripe. But don't eat the berries on this one until species identity is confirmed.
