Question, I have seen a plant in the woods near my house by the river that bear a remarkable resemblance to Sarsaparilla, Aralia nudicaulis. The berries and leaves are near to totally identical (not sure of the flowers, will check in the springtime). However, what I've read on (Sarsaparilla, Aralia nudicaulis) states that the plant grows to 24" high, the plants I have seen are 4-5 feet high (it looks much like a juvenile tree), other than that they look just like the photos shown (right down to the sawtooth leaves with elongated tips. could you possibly tell me what exactly this plant might be? And are the berries edible? Thanks much.

Compare with Aralia elata and A. spinosa.
