    Berry picking container

    http://xrl.us/kkdrj 8 July 2008 Berry picking container.
The container is a small lunch thermos purchased at Wal-mart.

This container is used for most of my fruit picking, and some vegetables, peas. The container is a good size and the ridge around the top reduces spillage, if the container falls over. This is far superior to the ubiquitious tin can tied around the waist.

The baffle in the first picture can be left in place to from a further barrier in the event of tipping when full of fruit. This baffle only extends halfway down the container.

Cute. I've a friend with a sort of harness for an ice cream pail that's worn around the waist. I'll have to suggest cutting the middle out of a lid, which would help prevent spillage and make it more stable by preventing the pail from squishing.

I bet it would be more comfortable attached to one of those back support belts. I've been meaning to make myself a container like this. Could happen any year now!

I went to Winola on the Niagara Escarpment to pick some cherries today, and seriously used the container. It was a dream. I climbed up the ladder to the nicest cherries at the top of the branches, and had no worries about kicking a basket resting on the top of the ladder. Don't go berry picking without it.
