For years I have had a problem with nocturnal beetles chomping the flowers of my New Guinea Impatiens. They don't eat any other plant and I don't see them in the garden at all when I don't plant them. I have gone so far as eliminating the dirt the plants have been potted in, washing all traces off the roots before planting in my garden. Nobody I've talked to, from garden store staff to city landscapers have heard of this problem. Anyone out there have any suggestions or info?

I assume you have seen the beetles chomping thereby eliminating the obvious 'its probably slugs and snails' response? If so, the best practice would be to plant something else. If you want to kill the beetles try diatomaceous earth as a first line of defense. Generally the black beetles we have here are scavengers and considered good bugs.
