I am a theatre artist who needs a whole bunch of beech tree leaves as a prop for a show I'm doing. Can anyone tell me the best place to find a beech tree on UBC campus?

Check Gerald Straley's Trees of Vancouver for locations. I quickly glanced at it and only saw one European beech cultivar (cultivated for its variant, rounded leaves) on campus.

You can also try calling Land and Building Services -- I believe they now have the trees of campus mapped.

I can't see walking up to a campus or other publicly owned or viewed specimen and stripping numbers of leaves from it. I think you may have to make special arrangements, maybe with a private land owner.

Ah, I was assuming only fallen leaves would be used.

Too early for this year's crop.

There are a number of very large Beech trees at Riverview in Coquitlam, come out to Treefest today and check them out, the problem will be that Beech, like Oak, tend to hold their leaves well in to the fall.

The old leaves from last year may well still be around, though they'll be rather mucky by now.

And liable to have been raked up or blown away in many publicly accessible settings.

If you want fallen leaves, try contacting the superintendent of a golf course or country club.
