These single stemmed plants have popped up all over both my patches of bee balm, but they are of a very different texture than the other bee balm, which has a reddish, purplish tint to the leaves. Like the bee balm, however, they also have four lobes. Could it be wild bergamot or another colour of bee balm?

    Thanks.

No, not a duplicate thread, a duplicate photo. The first came up empty. I have since figured out that they may be bee balm and I wanted to ask if anybody recognizes it from their own bee balm.

You should be able to tell by comparing smell, try crushing a leaf under your nose, are they the same? Perhaps the younger stems may take time to develop the colour? Look at the stem, is it "square" like all Laminaceae - which is the family of all mints, bergamots etc, so no big clue there if it is. But if not, you know it's not bergamot for sure. Looks vibrant and healthy, worth keeping to see how it flowers...
