Do you recognize this shrub? When I visited a friend's garden today, she pointed out a shrub that she has been growing for 10 years but has been unsuccessful identifying. She keeps it pruned back to reveal the bark which she says has attractive orange streaks in winter. Because of her pruning efforts, however, she has never seen it bloom.

Many thanks. Maybe my friend will now be persuaded to let the shrub grow in order to harvest the quince.
