I took a picture of this plant at the Grand Canyon and can't find it anywhere on the internet. It has these wonderful flowers with these feather like extensions. Does anyone know what this is? http://i47.tinypic.com/24mt7ac.jpg
Might be running into difficulty identifying it because the feather-like extensions are actually part of the fruit. Look up Fallugia paradoxa, aka Apache plume
Excellent! I think I was actually looking at this one earlier but wasn't finding any images that were similar to the one I have. All of the images I saw had very dense styles. This is definitely it though. Thanks!
Yep, I know what you mean re: density -- but I think it has started to lose some fruits. The other group I was looking at was Cercocarpus, but the leaves are different for all of the known species from Arizona.
BC has only Purshia tridentata which is without such beautiful plumes. We have both these species in N Utah.
