Found these growing in moderate shade on the side of a bank. I would like to know what they are, besides beautiful. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :-) Thanks
One of ~ 800 plants without chlorophyll. They are also good indicators of certain fungi in some parts of the country.
This one is usually called Indian pipe. M. hypopitys is sometimes called Dutchman's pipe, also Aristolochia species. An example of where common names can be misleading.

It was once thought to be a root parasite of trees, but that was wrong. It is a parasite of the fungus that grows on the roots of those trees. THeyy're pretty common here in the Pacific Northwest.
