Okay, I took a trip to kentucky this past weekend and my aunt is moving out of her apartment into a new house. So, she and I went to go and see the house and in the front of the house is a bush of the most beautiful plant ever! It was a pinkish purpulish color and the petals of the flower were star-shaped with a long thingy in the middle with a tiny bulb at the end. The little flowers grow in balls and have these pretty green leaves attached to it. I need help in identifying this plant because it would be perfect for my upcoming wedding, which will be taking place AT a botanical garden (Atlanta Botanical Garden to be exact). And because it will be at the ABG, i figured having artificial plants would be a bit tacky! I've done some research and it looks very close to a mophead hydrangea except it has five petals and not four and the mophead is minus the long attenae looking thingy in the middle (hey, im not too good with flowers. lol) I asked my aunt but she didnt know what it was since she was not the one who planted it. Please help, My wedding is soon and i'm afraid finding these little babies will take quite a while AFTER I learn what im looking for : (
Just a long shot... could it possibly be an Azalea. This one is Rhododendron Homebush which has double flowers. Named cultivars come in all shades of pink, white, yellow and orange. http://www.fotothing.com/photos/5fa/5fa092f118485151aaa4bb32d6040826_79f.jpg This is an unnamed one, with the 5 petals, as you described... praps!!! http://www.hsv-life.com/flowers/Azalea_pink_cluster.jpg
OMG, I think it's the first one or a variation of it! Im taking some pictures because my aunt picked one off of the bush and gave it to me in hopes that i'd find it. I put it in water and it survived the lengthy trip from Kentucky back to Atlanta. I'll post them soon! Thanks so much!
