Identification: BC Tree ID

    Location:
    Tiruvannamalai, INDIA, but I travel a lot!
    No 12. A tree on Hollyburn Mountain in Cypress Provincial Park, outside of Vancouver.

    Sitka alder.

    This is certainly an alder. If it was not planted there, it might be Alnus viridis ssp. sinuata.

    Yes, jagged leaf edge points to Sitka alder.

    Thanks Ron B and Robert. This tree was growing wild around 1000 m on the ski runs of Hollyburn mountain.

    Snowy mountain slopes typical habitat. However, by far the largest example I have seen was a planted specimen on the UBC campus in Vancouver.
