Amazing place, up there with the very best.. totally beautiful and meticulously maintained.
Only downside I didn’t appreciate quite how steep the hillside arboretum is..pushing my dad round in a wheel chair..was like an iron man contest in many parts .

@maf the humongous Shishigashira is superb..I thought I found it initially but the first one I found was only 20 feet tall, then 5mins further on I found the big boy!

Yes, beautiful arboretum, and mostly on a steep slope! I was there last Friday. I will get on my phone and add a few pics.

This tree shows just how long some of the maples have been there:

The second biggest Shishigashira (I think) :

    A couple of other maples:

I really wanted to see the Higasa yama but I couldn't remember where it was!

Beautiful post @dicky5ash , brings back such strong and good memories of pushing my dad around during his last visit to Paris, and out to the Chalet des Iles in the Bois Boulogne, up and down the hilly path. We got to cut to lines at Versailles though, and had a private tour, lol. We lost him a couple of years back now, but at the fine age of 93. Happy times, but hard on the arms and shoulders!

Definitely happy times, I’m sure that trip was a lasting memory for him.

Mum and dad really enjoyed it, they are mad gardeners and have a small collection of JM. I think I’ll take them to Westonbirt next time.

btw they have some impressive cut-leaf beech trees there..I’ve not seen these before..
