Can anyone identify this plant that appears to grow wild under the tree canopy.

Yep I think that might be it. It is pretty widespread right now. It looks nice in the underbrush, and where it grows thick, has a similar appearance as maybe monkey grass from a distance. What native grasses might discourage further advancement but still look nice and grown in partial sun under canopy?

None of our natives will discourage the bamboo, it's highly invasive.

I don't think it's the bamboo, but clearly it does spread to dominate - which particular grass (among thousands of kinds) it is may be a secondary consideration in this instance.
