I read it everywhere... pinching helps some plants.

I'm not sure I understand what pinching is. Can someone try to explain it to me?

    Thanks

you just take off part of the stem.. like on your wandering jew .. if you shortened about a quarter of the vine..it will make it bushier.. anywere were ya take off any growth .. new and more will come out..

    hope i explained it ..

Oh my!!! I had that completely wrong.

I thought pinching was REALLY pinching the plant... you know... like when I was younger my little brother used to pinch me all the time and gave me bruises! ;-)

I believe the full term is "Pinch back" meaning to prune. I bet your little brother had his share of bruises :))

Lucky him, I was too nice to bruise him.

But he was afraid of everything... so I kept on doing things that made him afraid ;-) Once, he had a clown doll that he was afraid of. He kept it in is closet because he didn't like seing it. Once in a while, I used to take it and put him on his bed as if the clown WALKED out of the closet and into his bed. I know it was bad of me... but trust me, he was worst to me (like putting spiders in my bed etc...)

I f one wantsto have dense growth on a plant, just the growing tip is pinched off. In plants the growing tip dominates the lateral growth, it is called as "Epical dominance". Once the growing tip is removed the lateral growth is encouraged; thus the plant gets dense growth.

Now that he is nearly 30 yo... maybe I should tell him it was ME who put the clown on his bed... or maybe not... maybe I'll let him wonder all his life! ;-)

LOL! Can you imagine that... plants running all over my house. Not a good idea... they will leave soil all over my brand new hardwood floor! ;-)

So I'll be gently with them and will pinch them softly!

Am I right to say that when you pinch a plant (ex: my philo) not only one new growth appears but two? I've notice that everytime I remove the end of a stem...
