I would like to know what this plant is. It is growing from outside into both my basement and my well. I discovered it when a sickly looking leaf poked its way out from under my kitchen sink. I traced it to the basement. Please keep in mind that I live in zone 3, and it is December. The ground is frozen. Evidently this specimen has chosen a subterranean lifestyle over dormancy.
Looks to me like a clematis, though I may be mistaken. Do you have one growing next to the house near where it's coming inside? I have a clematis next to our garden shed and it finds it's way into the shed.
I do.... it has been there for seven years. This is the first time it has tried to move in with me though. ;) Thanks Marjaleena!
Seven years is about the time it takes them to finish college, fail at finding a worthwhile job in today's market and then come home to invade your basement.
Well, I was going to yank it, but now that you all have put it into such a festive light, perhaps I shall fertilize it and start a new tradition of the 'Christmas Basement Invasive' and forgo the usual tree . ;)
You know, at one of the stores in Leduc (I forget which one) they used to have these teeny-weenie little plastic Christmas ball ornaments. It would be so perfect!
Well, it obviously wants to be friends with you, M.M.! Such an enterprising plant should be rewarded for its efforts!
