I was wondering if anybody could help me identify this disease on my Shirazz?

I just noticed it, looks pretty nasty. The tree has always seemed a little funky to me, I might just take her out and try to replace her with a healthier looking tree.

Looks like initially animal related Connor. Then bacteria has entered that maybe will cause that particular branch to fail. But it might heal itself.
If it gets worse, I would remove and use Bordeaux mix on the cut end. It's surprising how this effectively works on damaged and diseased maples.

Good guess, Derek. Yes the rounded aspect of the main wound looks as if an animal had bitten into it. Look at your toast tomorrow morning after the first bite...
    Any deers around ?

I'm sure it will recover, just use some copper fungicide on the scar to be on the safe side.
