One of our bamboos has flowered this year. I have lived here for 15 years and this is a first. A friend tells me that bamboos of the same genus (?) species (?) will all flower together wherever they are in the world. Sent shivers down my spine. Is this true?

Not sure about all over the world, but froom what I know they do all flower at the same time together, and then only something like once every 100 years, then they die.
