I buy a potted evergreen tree for a Christmas tree every year and plant it in my yard in the new year. I have had some bad luck with most of these trees. One died when another tree was blown over on it, one was in a spot that was too wet and died and one was killed by spider mites. My favourite was a balsam which had a wonderful scent - which I expect balsam to have. Last Christmas my boyfriend bought me a "balsam" as I requested - but it has no scent! Is it really a balsam or was he deceived? It is still alive at least.
Tree is in poor condition, possibly affecting aromatic qualities. What is the covering over the soil? What is the situation below the ground? Poor shoot growth and leaf color often due to adverse conditions in the rooting area. It is a fir Abies of some sort, but the pics are far too small to tell if it is Balsam Fir Abies balsamea or not.
