I am new to this forum and I hope that someone might help me on this post so that I don't have to dig through all of the previous posts to find the information: We live in Bakersfield, California and are interested in planting a lemon tree outdoors (near our orange tree that was there when we moved in last August and is currently doing really well). I think it's improved meyer lemon is what we would want. A friend of ours had a lemon tree that made orange colored lemons that were great and that's what he told us it was. So here are my questions: 1) We are a little over an an hour from Los Angeles/Ventura. Can anyone recommend a nursery in that area that would be selling mature trees? 2) Is there a specific variety or type you'd recommend? 3) What time of year is best to buy/plant the tree? 4) Anything else we should know? Thanks.
Check with Four Winds Growers; they carry several varieties of lemons including Meyer. Here's information on where their trees can be purchased in California: http://www.fourwindsgrowers.com/ordering/ca.html.
