I especially like the image of maples running on a treadmill!

I wouldn't have known how to call this. Anyway, that's a word I'll never use... ;°D

In my jungle (some would call it a wasteland), those that are not sunburnt are still green, for most of them. But :

'Bihoo' has a nice look :

    acerp-bihoo_221001a.jpg acerp-bihoo_221001b.jpg

Among those that have no tags, I think that these are Acer rubescens. The first one is one of the trees that have a guest : if I have zero samars this year, last year, I had hundreds. They're in different places, there are so many shades of orange and red...

One that I find particularly spectacular is Acer truncatum. "Shantung explosion!". In the spring, yellow veins and red edges, in autumn, red veins and yellow edges.

Why such big pots? That causes water to stay stagnant around the roots, since there's no root mass throughout the pot to drink it up. The saccharinum won't mind, but the saccharum might.

Here are a few more autumn pictures as things move along.

Not normally known for call color, A. campestre 'Pulvurentulum' had it's shade cut down last year, and reacted to the change of circumstances with interesting purplish colors.

    20220929_180521_v1.jpg 20220929_180555_v1.jpg 20220929_180630_v1.jpg

This nice A. amoenum will turn a dark red, and be planted this winter.
    20220929_192739_v1.jpg

    A. mandshuricum, burnt but still game! That's 'Silver Cardinal' in fg.
    20220930_151547_v1.jpg 20220930_151603_v1.jpg 20221001_175235_v1.jpg

Acer pseudosieboldianum got drowned last year and dry-baked this year. I hope it will survive. Colors are muted, but then there really aren't a lot of leaves.
    20221001_172134_v1.jpg

    A. capillipes 'Honeydew' and 'Sango kaku', the natural form.

On a separate but vaguely related note, I'm not sure if anyone here has been following the AI generated art that's happening now. I read this article

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/tech...nce-images-dall-e/?itid=hp_only-from-the-post

And then signed up for the DALL-E service, to try it. It worked reasonably well just from a plain text description, I plan to try and see how it can modify some existing real photos. The description that generated this is : "japanese maple with twisted stems and weeping habit in autumn colors with sun in background". The stem is a little incoherent, but all in all not bad I thought.

Some of my better attempts were humorous, but I haven't played much more than a few minutes. These are screenshots of the generation, for each phrase it makes 4 efforts.

No trees are labeled at this park @Soumil Yarlagadda. Sugar maple is what I would call it.

That middle one is very pretty. A shirasawanum of some kind?

Here are some more from the garden, at least the grass is green now!!

    A. tsinglingense, a little wan this year, not much growth but it lived.
    20221001_190452_v1.jpg

Acer pictum 'Akikaze nishiki' just starting
    20221001_190724_v1.jpg 20221001_190751_v1.jpg 20221001_190810_v1.jpg

    A. platanoides 'Holata' a beautiful and very slow growing dwarf named by Roman H.
    20221001_191202_v1.jpg

    A. distylum makes a lovely clear yellow, which contrasts strongly with the red petioles
    20221001_191426_v1.jpg 20221001_191438_v1.jpg 20221001_191512_v1.jpg 20221001_191525_v1.jpg

Scenes in the aceretum, 'Palmatifolium' on left in the first, 'Emmett's Pumpkin' a very strong red in the second
    20221002_142354_v1.jpg 20221002_165652_v1.jpg

AJ 'Kujaku nishiki' has incredibly varied color. A large part of the top died in the heat and drought this year.
    20221002_190430_v1.jpg 20221002_190444_v1.jpg 20221002_190548_v1.jpg

    A. pseudosieboldianum behind Liquidambar 'Silver King'. This latter was amazing this year, it never burnt at all.
    20221003_130142_v1.jpg

'Akikaze nishiki' 2 days further than the above pictures
    20221003_143813_v1.jpg 20221003_143830_v1.jpg

AJ 'Oudenbosch' did pretty well this year in full sun. I hope now it will be able to grow into a good presence.

Hey E. Yes, I labeled it as a shirasawanum hybrid. I have a few more out the batch to see what the fall color might be.
The aceretum is starting to put on great show! How long have you had 'Oudenbosch'?

I bought it in 2018 as a barely healed graft and planted in 2020, which means it was a really strong grower. I think it will be a mounding shape, or at least much wider than high. I believe Esveld grafted it as a one-off, I haven't seen it offered before or since, so I don't suspect anyone really knows how it will turn out!

Your shirasawanum should be very useful if it keeps that autumn coloration. Cheers!

Edit: I do see Maillot lists Oudenbosch now, though it isn't available.

Acer shirasawanum 'Autumn Moon' in late afternoon. I took a photo so my shadow limited the contrast of the evening sun. It looked like blood-splashed leaves (1):

    (1) I'm retired now, but it could have been a good tongue-twister for French learners of English: focus on the rythm, like in English poetry (or rap) : /_, /_, /_ <LOL>

Sieboldianum starting to show some really varied and dramatic colours now.
This is my last one, I sold 3 I'd been growing in pots the last couple of weeks to make some space.

A couple of seedlings, one orange, the other red, purchased from Westonbirt arboretum a few years ago. Presumably selected from their best autumn colour trees:

    Huh huh...
I was strong : I didn't buy anything. But if there had been an 'original' shirasawanum like 'MrSun', I might have, that was the limit I had decided...

    I know the feeling.

I'm planning to move away in a couple of years, so getting rid of the non-essentials, whether inside the house or in the garden. It is something that is getting more and more present in my mind...
