I'm thinking of improvising a simple room humidifier using aquarium supplies. The humidity should rise if an airstone, powered by an air pump, is placed into a container of water. What combination of pump and airstone would generate a large number of fine bubbles?

Pumps come in various capacities. The ones I looked at ranged between 700-5000cc per minute. The unit that seems to provide maximum flexibility for the price is 4600cc/min with dual output and a high-low setting. Would this be enough to do the job? The dual output will allow me to set up two 'humidifiers' if needed.

Block airstones come in different lengths - 4", 6", and 12". Which would be most efficient? I'm thinking greater length may not necessarily translate into more bubbles as the same volume of air is being expelled.

    Your thoughts would be appreciated.
