Hello, Usually I can identify most common houseplants from the web or other sources, but these two have me stumped. #1 Red leaves on fleshy stems (similar to coleus). However, leaves are coarse, ribbed and grow in clusters. Slow grower. #2 Variegated leaves with mixtures of red, green, and beige patches. Rapid grower. I initially thought iresine herbstii, but neither the leaf shape or color seem to match. Thanks, rootbound
HI There .. #1 looks like a Peperomia to me .. allthoug im not sure ive seen it in red .. but u can search google and you might find it .. I dont know about #2 .. nice colors .. I love variegated plants . hope u find out what it is .. Marn
I think that your second plant ia a Pseuderanthemum atropurpureum. I know that I have seen it before and it has been bugging me all day. Check out this link and compare...http://www.gflora.com/zen-cart/images/pseuderanthemum_atropurpureum_tricolor_2.jpg Joe
Hi, You folks really rock! Two for two. #1 does seem to be Pinea spruceana. Although mine is in pretty sorry shape. It seems to be a bit temperamental and probably needs to be restarted and kept pinched-back from what I'm reading. Its quite different in appearance from the more common "Aluminum Plant" Pilea cadierei. 2# Pseuderanthemum atropurpureum definitely matches the URL provided by Joe Keller. Thanks again. I cant tell you the number of web searches I've done trying to identify these two plants. Regards, rootbound
