This fruit/seed/berry comes from a low-growing plant, which I assume is a shrub, because of its woody stems. The branches have sharp spines, which are narrower and straighter than those of the rose, or hawthorn. They are very sharp and strong, which I found out by backing into this plant--they easily pierced corduroy. The leaves are somewhat like those of the geranium. The fruit, which is mostly medium to dark red and spherical, bears the same spines, but many more. This is growing in a forested area of our property. Can anyone identify it? Thank you.
