I have a 6 ft Aspen sapling that I planted a little over a month ago. I have just discovered that a squirrel (while trying to strip the bark) has broken off the main piece. There are off shoots which are fine. My question is how do I treat the broken piece? I know I need to trim but do I need to add any substances or wrappings? Or do I have to go but another one? Thank you

Unless dead leave damaged stem as is, cut off later after new sprouts much bigger. If it does well there you may get it popping up all over, perhaps ending up with far more stems than you originally wanted!
