Durgan - I have a 5 year old asparagus patch that has thrived and given us loads of succulent asparagus. Looking at your photos I must say yours have done extremely well in such a short time. Given the number and strength of stalks I think you will be fine to have more than just a few next season. We started eating ours in the second year. Go for it !

Wow, Durgan. I may have to rethink where I've planted my Asparagus. I planted them by themselves in a sunny spot in a common flowerbed area. However, my calendulas have crept in and grow at its base. I've read that asparagus don't like competition. I guess that's why my asparagus have not multiplied so well. I've left them there as they look quite pretty. But perhaps, I should consider devoting a bed to them---like yours.

I've heard that asparagus don't like to be moved. Can you give me any feedback?

    Thanks!

This is only my second effort on making an asparagus bed, so my experience is limited. Probably moving would damage a lot of the established root system, since the roots are quite deep, and difficult to remove.
