    Hello,

I was visiting the UBC food garden yesterday and I was amazed by the way the fruit trees are espaliered. Is it possible to train an asian pear tree the same form? I have a small yard and was hoping to train this along the fence. Also, does anyone know if UBC offers courses on espalier? Thanks!

Thank-you very much for your kind words about the fruit trees. Yes it is possible to espalier an asian pear, in fact we do have one trained as a stepover in the garden, other shapes are possible also.
We have offered courses on espalier in the past but no courses are being offered at this time, however if you are in the garden in the future I would be happy to give some tips to get you started, just call ahead or e-mail me at maniezzo@interchange.ubc.ca
    Thanks for using the forum,
    Tony
