Recently i discoverd what appears to be artist conk Ganoderma Applanatum but i just wanted to clairfy with anyone willing to help. I found the growth on an dead oak tree in north eastern US. There were younger growths on the tree that i decided not to harvest in case of a false identification. The growth i picked seems very old and around the rin of the underside there is a peice that is not all white but just one layer that is all brownish black. However this could just be a dead piece because one of the possible artist conks found on the ground did not have any white on it. all the other younger growth of the mushroom on the tree had an all white underside. Could anyone help me out? thanks a lot =]
It definately appears to be. If you're interested in drawing on it? Soak it overnight in water...then VERY lightly draw you're design on it. As it dries...you're pattern will darken to a deep brown. Fun FUNGUS!
I've seen many of these in the woods over the years but never one with a scene on it. There must be a special forest where these grow.
