Tnx Barbara, very useful information. I read about nutrition value of Aronia and i decided to plant some trees in my yard.
You will find that they come by the common name "Chokeberry" quite honestly: juicy, but extremely astringent. They do make a good juice, with a lot of sweetener added.
Don't think I've ever had one I planted die. Usually present each year at independent outlets here. As of some years ago probably the most offered ones have been A. arbutifolia 'Brilliant' ('Brilliantissima'), A. melanocarpa, A. melanocarpa 'Autumn Magic', and A. melanocarpa 'Viking'. The Hillier Manual of Trees & Shrubs (2002, Hillier Nurseries) attributes 'Autumn Magic' to A. X prunifolia , as it displays red-purple fall color and its fruits are purplish.
