I have just removed a large laurel hedge and these two plants started growing, can anyone tell me if they are weeds or not? Thanks

Lunnaria annua and Linaria purpurea. The honesty can be regarded as a reseeding annual, enjoyed for its flowers and money plant fruits. The other tends to pop up in the middle of other plants, in cracks in pavement and so forth. I would take it out before you end up with dozens of them.

ron, do you know what the second one is????

i have that and it's a NASTY bugger!!! heather, you need to dig up the roots (which are thick/fleshy) instead of just yanking the stuff out - any part of the roots left will just re-grow and continue spreading.

I seem to have a few of the second plant growing, it gets small purple flowers on it in the summer, they grow on the end of each branch.

I believe the second photo is the Linaria purpurea that Ron recommends removing. Not sure what the third photo is. Is it just another image of number 1?

Here is a better copy of the first plant it is now about 2' tall and stayed green all winter, it really doesn't look like a money plant to me but then I am new to gardening...

This plant is also Lunaria annua. It is a pity that nothing is known about the flowers of the second plant but Ron may be right, of course.
