    Hello

I have a sarracenia flava and I have just noticed a few small, about 2-3mm grayish looking spiders living in the top moss layer of the soil. Are these spiders harmful? Sorry no photos. My camera couldn't zoom in that close and be clear. Thanks

If they are actually spiders, they will be beneficial to the plant by feeding on insect pests. I'm not aware of any poisonous spiders that fit your description.

Generally, I would say they are beneficial. But in the case of a carnivorous plant, is there a chance the spider is competing with the plant for food? It's a casual question, but one I had never asked myself before.

Thanks for the replies. I dug around the soil a little further and saw tiny tiny red mites. Which is so unfortunate. My guess is those spiders were the eating the mites. Now to deal with the mites...
