These have grown from my Washingtonian robusta (windmill) palm. Are these the seeds of the tree and, if so, how do I handle them if I want to plant them? Thanks.
It is a developing inflorescence or flowering cluster. Seed will form once the flowers are pollinated.
This palm is monoecious. It could pollinate itself unless the male and female parts mature at different times.
Your photo shows what appears to be male inflorecense of Trachycarpus fortunei and not Washingtonia robusta. Perhaps a photo of showing more of the palm will be more definative. Chees, LPN.
Here is a better photo of the palm. After reading up on it, you are right. It looks like a Trachycarpus fortunei. The other photo is of a palm I was given. Can you give me the correct name for it? We successfully divided it two years ago when we moved it and now we have five. All have done beautifully. Thanks.
Yes ... the second one is Butia capitata (Pindo palm). There must have been multiples to have divided these successfully. Cheers, LPN.
Thanks, LPN. Yes, there were multiples that were all growing bunched together when we were given the palm. I also have two needle palms that were given to me. For several years, they looked terrible. We moved them to another location and they took off. Now, they're lovely. Thanks again for your help. :D
