Can a member confirm , or otherwise, that the Iris' in the photographs are indeed the sp. unguicularis. Thank you in advance. PS. I have posted 2 different plants. The first 3 photos are of an immature sp. of Iridaceae. The last 2 photos are of a mature Iris; I believe them to be sp. unguicularis. The younger plant was growing in a ditch which seperate a deciduous wood and a country road. The younger plants are in constant shadow. Thank you in advance
Iris unguicularis blooms in the winter or late fall and not bearded is my understanding. SpecUnguicularis < Spec < Iris Wiki The first one looks similar to Iris sintenisii which is native to southern Italy. Iris sintenisii - Wikipedia SpecSintenisii < Spec < Iris Wiki The second one could be compared with I. aphylla .
Thank you Chimera for replying to my thread. Iris sintenisii, as you said, is to be found in S. Italy. Iris aphylla can be found only be found in the Province of Piemonte, some 900 km distant. Piemonte is the extreme north west of Italy.
