I had to plant 2 red sunset maples (about 5', containerized) in my easement due to homeowners deed restrictions. I planted them about 3 weeks ago. One of them looks pretty good and already growing. The other one doesn't look like it's growing much, but it does have dense foliage, which are looking kind of wilted and have holes in them. My mother believes in pruning newly-planted trees so that the roots will grow stronger. I told her not to, but she went ahead and pinched off all new leaves. Are they going to survive, especially the one that already looks sick?
Hi Katie: I am new to this forum, and probably not too much help yet, but I strongly believe in fish emulsion for fertilizing. It works wonders. See what others think here, and maybe give the fish emulsion a try. Good luck. Melissa
prune little branch is good for the second red maple that "sleep"and use a liquid fertilize (only if you no fertilize again ) alex
