I have 7 arbutus trees in the front of my house in Powell River. It was the reason I bought the property.
I have lived here for 6 years and there was never a problem with the Arbutus trees.

Last month I noticed that 3 of the trees had no leaves, and have the appearance of being dead while the other 4 are full of leaves. These trees are at least 20 years old. Is that just a phase for the 3 trees that look dead or do I have 3 dead trees?

Try breaking some twigs, branches and see if they are still green or scrape the branch. Sound a bit dead.

Apparantly there's a fungus attacking an unfortunate number of Arbutus. =( They're one of my favorite trees, so needless to say if that's true it's a borderline tragedy.
