Arbutus: Arbutus is a poison to the birds?

    Hello. Please can someone help me.I find in my area a die Arbutus and most of the three I like to use for my Macaw and make for her a play stand I need to know if any of you know if these tree is a poison to the birds?

    I just googled a few listings and found nothing to say that Arbutus were poisonus. One place under small bird uses in the wild mentioned food & cover. I also had a friend that raised birds tell me they were good as caged bird perches because they lasted longer than the commercial ones. To be safe check with your local forestry people.

    I've noticed the "World Parrot Refuge" in Coombs on Vancouver Island uses some arbutus for perches; you could contact them to make sure.

    We have a Macaw too - Blue and Gold.

    The Arbutus is on the safe list for perches. I'm not sure about leaves or berries for pet birds like parrots.
