I planted about 50 arborvite trees almost a year ago. They seemed to be doing pretty well untill one turned brown. The brown seems be spreading to the other trees. They are well watered and get plenty of sun. Could something like red thread be in these trees? What do I do?

Yes it sounds like a pathogenic infestation. Try Washington State University Cooperative Extension for possible assistance with identification and treatment.
